Art & Architecture Tour / 14 Nights /15 Days

Places to visit : Delhi - Chandigarh - Agra - Jaipur - Jodhpur - Udaipur - Mumbai

Day 01 : Arrive Delhi 
Arrive in Delhi , warm welcome with flower garlands and transfer to hotel check in . Overnight at hotel.


Day 02 : Delhi 
Morning half day sightseeing of New Delhi. Visit the 12th century Qutab Minar gracefully hand-carved for its entire height of 234 ft and the iron pillar, which has withstood the ravages of time and not rusted even after 1500 years. Visit the mausoleum of emperor Humanyun - a forerunner of the Mughal style of architecture and the imposing modern Lakshminarayan temple. Drive past the India Gate ( war memorial dedicated to the lives of lais down by Indian soldiers), the President residence- formerly the Vicero's Palace, Parliament House and the Secretariat buildings,- an interesting blend of the Victorian and 20th century architecture.
Afternoon half day sightseeing of Old Delhi takes you to the magnificent Red Fort- a marvel in red sandstone, built on the banks (Red fort closed on Mondays) of River Yamuna by Mughal Emperor Shahjahan. Visit Raj Ghat (memorial to Mahatma Gandhi), Jama Masjid - the largest mosque in India. Drive past Chandni Chowk, once an imperial avenue of Mughal Royalty which today is the busiest commercial area of the city. Walk through Chandni Chowk to savour of an oriental bazaar. Overnight at hotel


Day 03 : Delhi - Chandigarh (By Train)
Morning transfer to New Delhi railway station to board the Shatabdi Express train for Chandigarh. Arrive and transfer to the hotel. Afternoon city tour of Chandigarh, Designed and built by the famous French architect Le Corbusier. Visit the Secretariat - an imposing building with a large tank, roof and garden. High Court - designed and constructed by the principles of the modern architecture - economy of space and beautiful presentation. Assemble chambers, a wonder of architectural innovation. Overnight at hotel. 


Day 04 : Chandigarh - Delhi (By Train)
Morning complete the remaining sightseeing , afternoon transfer to Railway station to connect Shatabdi express to Delhi , on arrival transfer to hotel check in. Overnight at hotel. 


Day 05 : Delhi - Agra 
Morning after breakfast depart Delhi for Agra en-route visit Sikandara. Akbar's tomb at Sikandara is located in a large walled garden on the road to Agra. it has a magnificent gateway covered with floral and geometrical arabesque decoration in white and coloured marble. Four elegant minarets adorn the corners. On arrival check-in at hotel. Overnight at hotel 


Day 06 : Agra 
Morning sightseeing in Agra . Visit the world famous Taj Mahal built by Shahjahan in 1648 in memory of his Queen Mumtaj Mahal to enshrine her mortal remains This architectural marvel is a perfectly proportioned masterpiece fashioned from white marble that stands testimony to the skill of 20,000 craftsmen brought together from Persia, Turkey, France and Italy and who took 17 years to complete this 'Love poem in Marble'. (Taj Mahal closed on Fridays) Later visit the Agra Fort containing the halls private and public audiences and other palaces itimad-ud-Daulah is an exquisite tomb built by Noor Jahan for her father Mirz Ghiyas Beg. In many ways this tomb foreshadows the Taj Mahal and was the first construction in India which marble inlay work was so beautifully and extensively used . Also visit marble cutting center and bazaar . Afternoon free time for shopping . Overnight at hotel


Day 07 : Agra - Fatehpur Sikri - Jaipur 
Morning depart Agra for Jaipur enroute visit Fatehpur Sikri. Fatehpur Sikri which was built by Emperor Akbar in 1569 and abandoned after fifteen years due to scarcity of water. See the graceful buildings including the Jama Masjid, the Tomb of Salim Chisti, the Panch Mahal and other palaces.
The attractions in Fatehpur Sikri are Jama Masjid - a beautiful building containing elements of persian and Hindu design. The main entrance is through the 54 m high Buland Darwaja, the Gate of Victory, constructed to commemorate Akbar's victory in Gujarat. The Hawa Mahal (Palace of Wind)is a projecting room with walls made entirely of stone lattice work. Birbal Bhawan, built either by or for Raja Birbal, Akbar's favourite courtier, this small palace is extremely elegant in its design and execution. Hiran Minar (Deer Minaret) is said to have been erected over the grave of Akbar's favourite elephant. Panch Mahal- This amusing little fice storey palace was probably once used by the ladies of the court and originally had stone on the sides. The lower floor has 56 columns, no two of which are exactly alike. On arrival check in at hotel. Overnight at hotel


Day 08 : Jaipur
Morning excursion to Amber Fort with an elephant ride. Amber is a classic, romantic Rajasthani Fort Palace. The rugged, time-ravaged walls of the Fort may not look beautiful from the outside, but the interior is a virtual paradise. Miniatures painted on the walls depict hunting and war scenes, apart from festivals. Precious stones and mirrors are embedded into the plaster. A major attraction at Amber is the Elephant Ride all the way upto the Fort entrance. This journey on caparisoned elephants is bound to enrich your memories with the Royal lifestyle of the Maharajas and leave you with truly unforgettable experience. Inside the fort visit the Jag Mandir or the Hall of victory. Inside the Jag Mandir is the famed Sheesh Mahal- a room with all four walls and ceiling completely embedded with glittering mirror pieces, which were specially imported from the Belgium during that period. Enroute to Amber Fort you will have a brief photography stop at Hawa Mahal - The Palace of winds.
Afternoon city tour begins with a visit to the Maharaja's City Palace, the former Royal residence, part of it converted into a museum. A small portion is still used by the royal family of Jaipur. Built in the style of a fortified campus, the palace covers almost one-seventh in area of the city. One of the major attractions in the museum is the portion known as Armoury Museum housing an impressive array of weaponry-pistols, lunderbusses, flintlocks, swords, rifles and daggers. The royal families of Jaipur once used most of these weapons. Later visit the Jantar Mantar, which is the largest stone and marble crafted observatory in the world. Situated near the gate of the city palace, the observatory has 17 large instruments, many of them still in working condition. Overnight at hotel 


Day 09 : Jaipur - Jodhpur 
Morning drive to Jodhpur enroute visit Pushkar , a quite little town on the edge of a small and beautiful lake in the eastern Rajasthan. A city of 500 temple and 52 bathing ghats, Pushkar prides itself of being the site of the only temple of Brahma , the Hindu Goa of creation and is therefore believed to be the centre of the creation of the World . Evening arrive in Jodhpur . Overnight at hotel 


Day 10 : Jodhpur
The Gateway to the Thar desert , the city is known for its striking Forts, stately palaces and gracious buildings . Some of these are now India`s finest hotels. The city was built in 1459 by Rao Jodha of The Rajput clan.
Sightseeing in Jodhpur includes Mehrangarh Fort built by the city`s founder five centuries ago , Jaswant Thada , museum , bazaar and excursion to Mandore . Overnight at hotel 


Day 11 : Jodhpur - Udaipur 
Morning drive to Udaipur enroute visit Ranakpur temple complex ( open at 1200 hours ). Ranakpur the 15th century Chaumukh Jain temple , one of the most beautiful crafted sculpted temples in India . Overnight at hotel 


Day 12 : Udaipur 
Udaipur is the most romantic city in Rajasthan. With its hilltop fortesses , fairytale palaces and exotic legends and its urben and industrial centre, the city is proud of its heritage as a centre for performing arts, painting and crafts. Most of the marble palaces and fortification have now been transformed into palace hotels .
Sightseeing of Udaipur includes City palace museum , Bharatiya Lok Mandal , Sahelyon Ki bari , Partap memorial and afternoon boat ride on the lake pichola to visit Jagmandir. Overnight at hotel 


Day 13 : Udaipur - Mumbai ( By Flight)
Morning fly to Mumbai ( 0850-1035 ) on arrival transfer to hotel check in and followed by City tour of Bombay - the great port city with its Victorian Gothic buildings from the British Raj Era mingling with the modern. The tour includes 'Gateway of India' overlooking the Harbour, the 'Towers of Silence', 'Marine Drive', the 'Colaba Causeway' - the commercial heart of Bombay and the Dhobi Ghat, the unique and colourful outdoor 'laundry'. Drive upto the Malabar Hill to the lovely 'Hanging Gardens' and the Kamla Nehru Park from where you will get a wonderful view of Mumbai and the Arabian Sea, spread out before you. Also visit Mani Bhawan, a small museum dedicated to the life and works of Mahatma Gandhi, and the bustling Crawford Market. Overnight at hotel  


Day 14 : Mumbai  
Morning, one hour boat ride across Mumbai Harbour brings you to the lush green Elephanta Island. Here, visit some of the huge and intricately carved Elephanta Caves that date back to the 8th century. For rows of massive columns cut into solid rock from three magnificent avenues, lead to the outstanding three-headed sculpture representing Brahma the Creator, Vishnu the Preserver and Shiva the Destroyer. Dedicated to Shiva, the beauty and power of these phenomenal sculptures depicting the various manifestations of Shiva is overpowering .( Check out 1200 hrs ) Afternoon free time for shopping etc . Overnight at hotel 


Day 15 : Depart Mumbai
